Donna has taken her lifetime body of work and experience as a professional Broadway dancer and put it in an easy to understand and useable format that will bring excitement to your dance and open the possibility of breakthrough performance. The choreography is fresh, creative, and challenging and the music is fun--from some of my favorite Broadway shows. It is definitely helping me to become a better dancer. Donna Cerio packs an incredible amount of instruction into this video. She describes the exercises in clear and precise terms, reminding students of important details of alignment as she goes. The exercises include plies, tendus, developpes, frappes, grand battements, and a center barre. Each exercise is choreographed to a Broadway show tune, which makes the class fun and innovative. The choreography is challenging which will ensure that the class does not become boring, even when practiced regularly. It will take most dancers several sessions to fully learn the choreography - just as it would in a live class. The class is filmed in an empty theatre and is staged very effectively. Donna faces the camera and instructs, while two dancers demonstrate on either side, one facing back and one front. This gives the viewer every possible angle to understand the movements. The center barre is demonstrated with all three dancers facing the audience and the camera behind, which allows you to feel like you are performing too! Finally, the two assistant dancers perform the piece facing the camera, showing the beauty of the choreography. All you need is a little space in your living room and a chair, and you'll be ready for one of the best dance classes of your life. The steps and terminology all stem from what is normally taught in a ballet class, making the routines cohesive. The dancers, as is illustrated by two of Ms Cerio's students, demonstrate beautifully, the grace that ballet and proper form can bring to musical theatre. This instructional DVD is perfect for Dance teachers and/or students. It would certainly create a versatile and delightful recital program and can be another way to teach ballet. This DVD is like nothing I have ever seen. The teacher, Donna Cerio, is a wonderful dancer and teacher. She explains things clearly and in a concise manner. Her choreography is brilliant and SO FUN! Nowhere else will you ever find a ballet class that is set to Broadway show soundtracks. Donna teaches and choreographs with traditional ballet technique, but incorporates wonderful Broadway-style movements away from the bar and gestures mixed into the choreography. Because the class is so fun, you don't even realize how hard you are working! The dancers she uses to demonstrate the combinations, as well, are phenomenal. Overall, this is an excellent buy! I would recommend it to anyone interested in ballet, musical theatre dance, musical theatre, singing, acting, or just someone looking for a fun mode of exercise!
