A scratch on a
disc is generally not enough
to keep the disc from working
especially if the scratch goes from the
center out to the rim. Scratches
that go around the disc where a good
portion of the same track is scratched can
cause trouble. Discs aren't like the old
records where a scratch would
make a noise and even make the needle
jump out of the groove. Disc players
generally have technology that will
allow for areas that might be damaged
but if the damage goes around the
disc covering the same radius area
there could be a problem.
