During their more than 15 years of creative collaboration, pianist Douglas Corbin and ballet teacher David Howard have developed an exquisite understanding of the relationship between music and dance. This double-length album of solo piano music presents the essence of their creative work for the ballet class. Douglas Corbin creates a varied flow of 46 melodies and rhythms, holding the dancer's attention. He has chosen themes largely from his own compositions, adding touches from the classics, jazz, and popular songs with no vocal instruction. David Howard's notes and ideas can be seen directly in the video, "Visual Notes", in which he teaches two students using all the music contained on the album. |

Visual Notes to "Music For Ballet Class" This DVD accompanies the album (CD sold separately), David Howard & Douglas Corbin - Music for Ballet Class and contains a complete ballet class for intermediate level training. David Howard instructs two dancers from the David Howard Dance Center by clearly showing each combination of steps before the music starts and offering suggestions after the exercise is over. The dancers demonstrate the exercises in both directions at the Barre and all the combinations in the center. Douglas Corbin has created arrangements of twenty-four melodies to be used in the ballet class. The standard four-count introduction is combined with easy to follow rhythms and uplifting melodies. Each selection on the album is contained on this visual demonstration with some of the longer melodies for center work fading out after the exercise has been performed several times. This DVD is a non-chaptered video stream in a clear unmarked case which shows the label of the disc. What's this? |
